I know I haven’t written in a while but I’ve been keeping busy this summer. One of the projects we (my husband and I) set out to do was a vegetable garden that would provide us with homegrown veggies at least for the summer. After all, we have the space and it’s sunny and why not. You can never say you don’t like something unless you’ve tried it at least once…
So this year we decided to build the set garden on a raised bed. He built the box (I helped lol), after figuring out where we would put it and how big it should be, and we put it in place once the ground was cleared and level. We filled the box with earth and sheep compost and then planted the stuff. We also surrounded the garden with this plastic mesh to prevent small animals from wondering in the garden. I’ve heard stories of how vicious squirrels can be with plants when they’re hungry… Or when they’re just squirrels. But luckily so far we haven’t had problems with the resident squirrels from our trees…

This is a picture of the garden right after we were done planting.

Anemic right? Wrong lol this is what it looks like now…

We weren’t sure how many plants to plant initially, so we bought 4 tomato plants, 4 pepper plants and 2 cucumber plants. We figured it would be enough for two people… So, in planting the veggie plants we pretty much respected the measurement of 2 feet diameter per tomato plant and cucumber plant, now I understand why.
We already have plants heavy with fruits and I just can’t wait to be able to say “I’m eating a salad from my garden”.
