As part of going green, I took the executive decision to change some of the products we’re using in our house, considering that all the cleaning products out there are full of chemicals that not only you may be absorbing in your skin or breathing in, but they’re horrible for the environment.
You could probably find some environmentally friendly products at your local store, but I figured why not save some money and have less of an impact on the environment.
So here are two recipes of home made cleaners that I find do as good of a job as anything you’d buy in the stores and they disinfect the surfaces you clean.
Glass/window cleaner
1:1 proportions white vinegar/water
Bathtub/shower cleaner
1:1 proportions white vinegar/dishsoap
I reused some of my spray bottles I had from different products I’d bought in the past and basically mixed the liquids in equal proportions and voilà! Of course in my case, I ended up removing the old stickers and wrote on each bottle with a permanent marker to identify each mix.
If you think the smell of vinegar will be too much for you, don’t worry the smell doesn’t stay for very long, even more if you’re cleaning with an open window.
If you don’t want to try to make your own cleaning products, as I said, you can find environmentally friendly products. At my IGA (in Montreal), I found some products called Attitude and Bio-green that were certified by Eco-logo as being green, and surprisingly weren’t even that much more expensive than the regular stuff. In fact, you can check on their website http://www.ecologo.org/en/ an entire list of green approved products.
Happy cleaning!

I have switched out mine out too.
I switched out mine also and have discovered the homemade ones work even better.
