  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp of honey
  • 4 tbsp lemon juice or scented essential oils
  • 2 x 12 oz mason jar

I don’t quite remember where I got this recipe, and as excited as I was about it, my mixture came out just a tad soggy. I had respected all the quantities, and yet there was still a forming layer of oil in places.

The next time I made it, I made it without even measuring the oils. I took pretty much the same quantity of sugar or even less, and when I added the oil I started with probably around 1/2 a cup. I mixed it well and added the rest of the ingredients, but made sure the sugar was just humid not drenched in the oil. If the sugar wasn’t all humid with oil, I’d add just a bit more…. Kinda like tablespoon at a time.

Let me tell you, it’s wonderful! You use it as if you were to wash your hands with soap, rinse and then dry. And yes when you rinse you’ll still feel your hands oily but that feeling will go away as soon as you dry your hands. It’s a wonderful natural moisturiser and although some people might think it leaves you with olive oil smelling hands, trust me that is not the case.

I end up using it after doing the dishes or even gardening, and my hands are super soft…. I just love it.

So here’s how mine looked when I was done mixing.

And need I say that if you don’t want to only use olive oil, there’s other oils that are wonderful, like avocado oil, almond oil, coconut oil and that you can add to the mixture?

Happy smooth skin!
